Situation:

While reading the book, learners have questions about American culture and how it impacts the stories. This leads to discusssions on American History and builds a foundational understaing and connection to the book. 

Step 1:

Pre-reading Preparation:

a. Choosing a theme (History)

b. Choose a book 

c. Preread the story prior to class 

Step 2:

Contextualizing the Narrative:

a. Identify historial, societal, and cultural references within the story. 

b. Understanding the time and place in which the story occurs enriches learner’s comprehension. 

Step 3:

Vocabulary Building:

a. Create a vocabulary list based on the text. 

b. Prior to class, write this information on the board to enhance their understanding of the words prior to      reading. 

Step 4:

Exploring Learning Opportunities:

a. Identify additional learning opportunities and questions to consider based on the narrative. 

b. Highlight connections to other subjects to encourage learners to broaden their learning horizons. 

Step 5:

Facilitating Discussion and Reflection:

a. Encourage learners to reflect on the material. 

b. Foster curiosity and independent learning. 

C. Strengthen communication and critical thinking skills by exchanging ideas and perspectives in supportive group setting.
